Relevance of viscosity

Depending on the field of application, paints, lacquers and coatings show a wide variety of compositions. Nevertheless, for all of them their consistency, i.e. their fluidity or viscosity, is of decisive importance. If the product used is too thick (too high viscos) or too thin (too low viscos) for the respective machine, the liquid cannot be handled optimally in either case.

Also, the ideal mixing ratio must be monitored continuously in order to counteract evaporation effects in the process and to keep the viscosity constant. The QVis quartz viscosimeter has been expertly designed to deal with these challenges in a masterful way.  


Monitoring the viscosity of paints, varnishes and coatings

At the heart of the quartz viscometer QVis developed by flucon fluid control GmbH there is a quartz crystal which is subjected to high-frequency vibrations. The viscosity is then determined from the specific influencing of the oscillation behavior by the surrounding measuring liquid. This innovative process, which is already being widely used in the paint, varnish and coating industry, allows the continuous measurement of dynamic viscosity and temperature in the process.


Maximum installation flexibility

Since the viscosity measurement is independent of the direction of flow and since the QVis can be used for a large measuring range without requiring a change of the measuring head, the sensor can be installed at any location, e.g. directly into the pipe or into the tank.

The quartz crystal as the heart of the QVis sensor is extremely robust and enables the continuous measurement of the viscosity even under harsh process conditions, with the great advantage that no moving wear parts are required.

The patented and well-proven measuring principle makes the QVis system unique and opens up new possibilities in the area of viscosity determination and regulation. The high shear gradient allows measurements in the high-shear range, without undesirable temperature regression or any other influence on the test substance.

The QVis generates analog output values (4 ... 20mA or 0-10V) for further processing. If desired, the PC program included in the scope of delivery can be used to connect the QVis to a laptop or control computer in order to record the measured values.
